Searching through the internet I found a very interesting LED mood lamp built by Toon Beertsen, I have put a link to the original LED mood lamp in the Links page.
The lamp is controlled by a PIC microchip 16F628 controller and I decided to add a Sony IR remote control receiver to the design, which my brother was very kind to code in a PIC microchip 12F683 controller.
Update! IR sensor changed to a 38 KHz model and remote controller changed to work with an Apple remote, look in the user guide for details.

The 3 Watt LED module is mounted on a 5 K/W heat sink, a little over dimensioned, but this gives the opportunity to mount the LED mood lamp pcb on the heat sink.
