My brother and I have build a new IR (infrared) datalink used to configure our preamp, tuner and 5.1 (6 channel) volumecontrol. The concept is quite simple, we type the relevant data in a Visual Basic program, download the data to the IR datalink through a rs232 serial connection, disconnect the IR datalink from the PC and take it into the living room and transfer the data to e.g. our preamp through a infrared rs232 serial connection and the configuration is completed. Smart, simple and quite time saving.

Wait approx. 30 sec. and the IR datalink turns of the power.
